The management team at ThePort Network is an exceptionally experienced group with a history of success building companies together.
Robert Cramer and Dan Backus, the co-founders of ThePort Network were colleagues at A.D.A.M., Inc., a healthcare information company that was founded in 1990. Robert Cramer was responsible for designing and implementing its success strategy and taking the company public in 1995 (Nasdaq:ADAM). He took on the CEO role at ThePort in early 2006 but continued to serve as A.D.A.M.’s Chairman until late 2006. A.D.A.M. continues to garner numerous industry awards and presently has a market capitalization in excess of $60million. The challenges and successes that Mr. Cramer and Mr. Backus experienced while growing the company from inception to a highly profitable enterprise serve them well as they launch ThePort Network.

Bob Cramer has a unique background in technology, media, entrepreneurship and social activism. After co-founding ThePort in 1999, Bob became its full-time CEO in January, 2006, after spending more than a decade as CEO of his first start-up, A.D.A.M., Inc., now a successful publicly traded company. Bob still serves as A.D.A.M. Board Chairman.
Since 1986, Bob has served on the Board of the Metro-Atlanta Task Force for the Homeless, and is currently the Board Chairman, a position he has held for 12 years.
Recognized in Georgia for his entrepreneurial success and civic leadership, Bob was named an "Entrepreneur of the Year" by Catalyst magazine in 2002 and a "Top Forty Under Forty" business leader by Georgia Trend magazine in 1999. Bob started his career as an early employee in the New York bureau of CNN.
Bob lives in Atlanta, with his wife and three children, and is on the Board of Trustees of The Galloway School. Bob is the grandson of the late George J. Hecht, the founder and publisher for more than 50 years of Parents magazine.

Dan Backus, co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of ThePort Network is the company’s technology visionary and executes its strategic plan. He ensures that the product offering and delivery infrastructure are capable of supporting the strategic direction of the company. He oversees day-to-day management of production, development and delivery of ThePort Network solution to clients.
Mr. Backus has more than 23 years of experience in leading award-winning software development efforts. Apple honored Mr. Backus for his pioneering work in multimedia. He received the state of Georgia Business and Technology Alliance’s award for Most Innovative Technology in 1991. Invision NewMedia awarded him “Best in Show” at their tradeshow in 1993 and The New York Festival for Multimedia awarded him “Best in Show” at their tradeshow in 1993.

Hunter Eskew, Director of Engineering, oversees server architecture design and that the delivery of solutions to clients conforms to the overall strategic direction of the company. He has 13 years of experience designing and developing mission critical applications.
Prior to joining ThePort Network in February 2002, Mr. Eskew worked as a Senior Consultant at EdgeTek Technologies and led the development effort for several clients, including ThePort Network’s server implementation. He also served as the senior data architect on the project. In addition, Mr. Eskew served in project management roles during his years at Siemens Energy and Automation corporate IT department. Mr. Eskew holds a BBA in Information Systems from the University of Georgia, and an MBA in Information Systems from Kennesaw State University.

John Patton, Vice President Finance and Operations, joined ThePort Network in April of 2006. Mr. Patton manages all aspects of finance and operations and is an integral member of the senior team charged with strategic planning and business modeling.
Prior to ThePort Network, Mr. Patton was a partner at GMG Capital Partners, a technology focused venture capital fund where he was responsible for sourcing deals, negotiating and closing transactions, and managing portfolio companies. Mr. Patton has a BS in Electrical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and an MBA from Georgia Tech. Mr. Patton is also on the Board of Directors of for the Adaptive Learning Center for Infants and Children |
